Area & Location > Lynton & Lynmouth

The twin towns of Lynton and Lynmouth are known as the Little Switzerland of England and have been popular destinations since the Victorian times.

These two little villages are hidden amongst two deep wooded river valleys in Exmoor; Lynton is placed up on the top of the cliffside – with stunning views across the sea and beyond and Lynmouth is at the base of the cliff – by the waters edge.  There is a cliff railway that links the two.

The villages are one of the most popular tourist destinations in North Devon due to their all year round facilities.  There is an abundance of quaint shops in the villages although a trip to Ilfracombe would be needed for additional amenities.

A bit of history:
The Victorians made holiday centres of the towns and opened a cliff railway in 1890 to connect Lynmouth to Lynton, creating some spectacular views across the sea and Exmoor.
